Our 8-week Lawnfeed program works best when it’s supported by good habits in between visits. Here are three simple things you can do to help your lawn thrive no special gear or products required:
1. Water Smart
Water deeply, but not too often, usually two to three times a week depending on rainfall. Early morning watering (before 9am) is ideal. This helps activate the nutrients and wetting agents we’ve applied, giving your lawn consistent moisture without overdoing it.
2. Mow Properly
Stick to the one-third rule: try to never cut more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mow. This keeps your grass healthy and reduces stress. If possible, mow with sharp blades and with the catcher on, without a catcher the cut grass dies back creating thatch which is an ideal place for problems to emerge. Thatch also reduces rainfall / watering to penetrate the soil. We have found that the quality of lawns between customers that cut weekly, and fortnightly is a massive gamechanger. Regular cutting promotes thickening of lawns and thickening of lawns helps prevent weed germination.
3. Shade Mitigation
Grass needs 6–8 hours of direct sunlight to thrive. In shaded areas, growth slows, roots weaken, and the lawn becomes more vulnerable to weeds, moss, and disease. Moisture also lingers longer, increasing the risk of fungal issues. Mowing higher and improving airflow can help grass survive in these spots. If you are able to cut back that over hanging bush, or tree you’ve been postponing for a couple of years your lawn would be very grateful. Mowing higher especially in winter will allow the leaf to get more sun and keep the roots healthy and this is one of the most important winter tips.
